Gateway location

A place worth slowing down for.

Mto wa Mbu lies on the route between Arusha, Lake Manyara, Karatu, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti. Yet the town deserves time of its own.

Beneath the Great Rift Valley escarpment, irrigation supports banana groves, rice fields and vegetable plots. A busy market, family kitchens and working studios reflect communities from across Tanzania.

The name means “River of Mosquitoes” in Swahili. Today, Mto wa Mbu is known for its cultural diversity, local food, creative workshops, cycling routes and easy access to Lake Manyara landscapes.
